Witchy Musings for the First of the Month...

So Becca, what do you do at the beginning of the month?

I have a group chat that I text with about mindful rituals, lunar happenings and sometimes just words of encouragement. I remind everyone to set their crystals out to charge, blow cinnamon in their doors and any other interesting tidbits I come up with. This kind of transparency leads to a lot of questions, such as the one above.

So what does my beginning of the month ritual look like?

Well, it starts off like most everyone's daily rituals. I shower. But I really shower. I exfoliate my entire body and while I'm doing this, I am imagining all of the negativity, self criticism and failures of the month sloughing off with the dead skin and being washed away. I am reborn as a fresh, clean, new person. Every shower can be this, it's about mindfulness. I also clean my shower to remove any residual negativity.

I change my sheets. Your bed absorbs all of the bad dreams and negative self talk that you do before sleep (we all do it). Change those sheets! Spray some rosewater or lavender linen spray on your fresh sheets and pillows. Make your bed a space for love and self acceptance--a retreat from negativity.

At some point in the day, (Whenever I find a moment. I have a family and responsibilities too.) I will take a pinch of cinnamon, place it in the palm of my hand and blow it into my front door. This welcomes prosperity and abundance into my home. I actually do it to all of the entrances, because I'm not going to complain if abundance wants to sneak in through the garage! Just remember to leave the cinnamon there at least overnight. It's a tiny amount! You don't have to clean it up right away!

And that's really about it. None of it is difficult, time consuming or really weird. Ok. Maybe the cinnamon thing is weird but who cares? None of my neighbors pay my bills so they don't get a say in what I do!

Oh! One thing I don't do on the first of the month is get a haircut (or shave). "No hair shall be cut on the first of the month!" Why? I have no idea. My mom always said that and she got it from her mom. I listen to my ancestors. They know what's up.

Happy September everyone!
